What You Need to Know About STDs
STD statistics show that there has been a steady rise of such cases not only in the United States but across the globe. With the rise of cases of syphilis in men and women, STD statistics just seems to get higher and highter. If it is not Syphilis, then the it is Chlamydia and gonorrhea that contributes a big part in the STD statistics as well.
The problem with STD statistics is that it is likely to be inaccurate. It is very possible that the statistics does not include the undetected cases, for example with chlamydia, because you normally do not exhibit symptoms so you might be aware that you have it. Still, the growing numbers are frightening even if at times the numbers are understated.
One the other hand, there is a high percent of people who have gonorrhea, Chlamydia or syphilis. For example there was one year in the United States where there were about a million people who have been diagnosed with Chlamydia. That number was obviously higher than the one that was recorded a year ago. Moreover, about 350,000 had gonorrhea in that same year. The number appears to grow higher each year.
The STD statistics also show that the most common among STDS is chlamydia and gonorrhea. Chlamydia may not easily manifest symptoms but can diagnosed easily. Gonorrhea is also not that hard to diagnose. The good news is that when diagnosed early, they can be treated. There is a chance that these two STDs can lead to problems like infertility or PID in women if left untreated. Women may see more complications like ectopic pregnancy and chronic pelvic pain.
Although men suffer from chlamydia less, this does not mean that they can’t be affected by complications. Meanwhile, gonorrhea can lead to very serious complications in men. Not only does this disease put them at risk of infertility but they the infection can make its way to joints and the blood stream. In worst cases it can lead to death.
What does this mean? This mean that men and women alike should become more aware about the risks that these STDs carry. The key to avoiding the spread of STD is awareness and at the same time it also help you know what steps you need to do if you get infected.
As the STD statistics show increase in the number of these cases, the more should people should practice safetly. The statistics is a subtle reminder that there is a big risk of STDs when you have multiple partners. It also helps to learn how to properly use a condom.
Get your self checked if you have someone new in your life. For cases where your partner is having an affair, it is better to get screened. Awareness will help keep the numbers low.
